Pixel families were a trend on tumblr between roughly 2012 and 2014. Back then the desktop mobile view didn't exist and custom themes and pages got a lot more attention than they do now. They were particularly common in the homestuck community, where fans often used editted versions of the rpg sprites to represent their friends and mutuals.

Back then I barely had anyone worth including. But I'm not a hermit anymore, so I wanted to make one now!
